About the stub end

A stub end (lap joint stub end) is welded to the pipe; a loose lap joint flange slides over it. The flange can rotate freely, making bolt-hole alignment trivial. Ideal for expensive alloy pipe where you want cheap carbon steel flanges rotating on a costly alloy stub end.

Welded fitting: stub end is permanently attached to the pipe
Loose backing (lap joint) flange rotates freely for easy bolt-hole alignment
Type A (long pattern) and Type B (short pattern) per ASME B16.9
Lap face (raised shoulder) contacts gasket, same sealing area as raised face flange
Allows different material for stub (alloy/SS) and backing flange (carbon steel)
