Piping components for beverage & dairy

Dairy and beverage lines are cleaned more often than they are run. The fittings are chosen for how well they clean, not only for how they flow.

The requirement

What beverage & dairy demand of a fitting

Milk, juice and brewing lines are cleaned and sanitised between every production run, often several times a day. Every internal surface has to be reachable by CIP solution, which rules out crevices, sharp internal corners and unnecessary dead legs.

Electropolished SS 316L is the working standard for product contact. Electropolishing lowers the effective surface roughness and removes the free iron left by mechanical polishing, which is what keeps the surface from harbouring residue between cleans.

Connection type is usually dictated by the plant's existing standard rather than chosen fresh: tri-clamp to ISO 2853, DIN 11851 unions, or SMS 1145 depending on the equipment already installed. Matching it exactly matters more than which is technically better.

Where these components sit

  • Raw and pasteurised milk transfer lines
  • Brewing, wort and beverage product circuits
  • CIP supply, return and recovery loops
  • SIP steam circuits for sterilisation
  • Filling and packing line connections

Specification points that matter here

  • Electropolished internal surface for product contact; state the Ra you require
  • Match the existing plant connection standard: ISO 2853, DIN 11851 or SMS 1145
  • Self-draining slopes; avoid horizontal runs that hold residue
  • Tri-clamp joints where the line is dismantled for inspection
  • Confirm gasket material compatibility with the CIP chemistry in use

Standards that apply

Scope and key points for each are on the standards reference; dimensions and pressure classes are in the Technical Catalog.
